Honda partners with Ascend Elements to procure recycled Li-ion battery resources.

Honda aims to secure a reliable supply of nickel, cobalt, and lithium, which will be reclaimed from recycled lithium-ion batteries by Ascend Elements.

Honda Motor Co., Ltd. has announced a new partnership with U.S.-based Ascend Elements, Inc. to improve the recycling of lithium-ion batteries used in Honda’s electrified vehicles. The two companies have reached a basic agreement to collaborate toward stable procurement of resources from recycled batteries in North America. This collaboration will help Honda achieve its goal of reducing its environmental impact and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

Through this collaboration, Honda aims to secure a reliable supply of nickel, cobalt, and lithium, which will be reclaimed from recycled lithium-ion batteries by Ascend Elements. These resources will then be utilized in Honda’s battery supply chain for the production of electrified vehicles in North America.

Honda is committed to reducing the environmental impact of its vehicles, and the use of recycled battery resources is a crucial step toward achieving this goal. Ascend Elements specializes in technologies for recycling of battery resources and has extensive experience in the field. By collaborating with Ascend Elements, Honda hopes to improve the recycling of lithium-ion batteries used in its electrified vehicles.

The partnership will help Honda secure a stable supply of recycled lithium-ion battery resources in North America, which is essential for the production of its EVs. As the demand for electric vehicles continues to grow, it is critical to find sustainable solutions for recycling the batteries used in these vehicles.

Honda is committed to achieving a circular/resource-recycling society and has set a target of “zero environmental impact” by 2050 through its “Triple Action to ZERO” concept. This initiative focuses on three key areas: carbon neutrality, clean energy, and resource circulation. To achieve this goal, Honda is not only focusing on its products but on its entire product lifecycle and all corporate activities.

By partnering with Ascend Elements, Honda is taking a crucial step toward achieving its 2050 target and reducing its impact on the environment. This collaboration demonstrates Honda’s commitment to sustainability and its willingness to invest in innovative solutions that benefit both the environment and the industry as a whole.
