Toyota launches the new Prius plug-in hybrid EV in Japan.

The new Toyota Prius PHEV is highly fuel-efficient, achieving 26.0 km/L with 19-inch tires and 30.1 km/L with 17-inch tires.

Tokyo, Japan - Toyota Motor Corporation has announced that it will commence sales of the all-new Prius Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) models, offered as the Z grade, on March 15. The company has developed this new model under the “Hybrid Reborn” concept, and it promises to add a design that inspires love at first sight and captivating driving performance to its core strength as an environmentally friendly car.

The Prius HEV models were launched in January this year, and they have already gained an excellent reputation. The new Prius PHEV, offered as the Z grade, is a high-performance version equipped with the latest plug-in hybrid system. It combines a compact, high-capacity drive battery, a high-output drive motor, and a high-efficiency gasoline engine.

The all-new Prius PHEV offers a remarkable level of dynamic performance, boasting a maximum system output of 164 kW (223 PS) of power. Additionally, this model is highly fuel-efficient, achieving 26.0 km/L with 19-inch tires and 30.1 km/L with 17-inch tires. In terms of battery-electric vehicle driving distance, the Prius PHEV delivers an impressive 87 km with 19-inch tires and 105 km with 17-inch tires, which represents a 75% improvement compared to the previous model.

The new Prius PHEV boasts an impressive maximum power output of 164 kW (223 PS), which is double that of the previous model. It can also accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 6.7 seconds, making it one of the most exciting cars on the market.

It is also equipped with Regeneration Boost, a feature that is particularly useful when driving on mountain roads or in situations that require frequent switching between acceleration and braking. This innovative feature provides stronger regenerative braking force than usual, resulting in more responsive driving performance while minimizing the need for frequent switching between the accelerator and brake pedals. This not only enhances the driving experience but also promotes more efficient use of the car’s energy, further contributing to its already impressive fuel efficiency.

Prius PHEV comes with a second-generation solar charging system. The system converts solar energy into electricity, providing enough power to drive up to 1,250 km per year in BEV mode. With a highly efficient solar panel installed on the vehicle roof, the battery can be charged even in parking lots where charging stations are unavailable or during blackouts.

The electric power generated from the solar panel is used to charge the drive battery while the car is parked, supplying electricity not only for driving but also for other functions such as air conditioning. Additionally, the system also supplies the auxiliary battery system while driving, thereby reducing the consumption of the drive battery.

The new Prius Plug-in Hybrid Z grade is priced at JPY 4,600,000 (USD 33,870).
