Samsung SDI Participates in InterBattery 2023.

Samsung SDI will unveil its differentiating technologies with Super-Gap edge such as all solid-state battery, innovative structural design, high-efficiency fast-charging as well as BoT applications.

Samsung SDI, the battery manufacturing subsidiary of South Korean electronics giant Samsung, has announced its participation in InterBattery 2023 in Seoul. The event is set to take place from March 15 to 17, and Samsung SDI is planning to unveil its latest line-up of Battery of Things (BoTs) applications, featuring its own battery brand, PRiMX.

Samsung SDI’s booth at the event will be divided into two zones, the ESG Zone and Core Technology Zone. The booth will showcase various types of batteries, including prismatic, cylindrical, pouch, and button batteries, along with their respective applications, such as electric vehicles, IT and wearable devices, power tools, and ESS.

The Core Technology Zone is where Samsung SDI will demonstrate its technological advantage. Visitors will be able to see displays of all solid-state batteries, innovative structural designs, highly efficient fast charging, and safety technology, among other advancements.

Samsung SDI is one of the leading players in the battery market, and its participation in InterBattery 2023 is expected to draw a lot of attention from the industry. The company’s display is said to visually enumerate its battery technology prowess and history, engaging the audience at the biggest battery fair in Korea.

Samsung SDI’s solid-state batteries are known for their anode-less technique, which utilizes a lithium-anode solid electrolyte configuration to achieve better battery life. The company is currently in the process of constructing the only solid-state battery pilot line in South Korea, with sample production set to begin in the second half of this year. The pilot line will facilitate a range of tests to improve the completeness of Samsung SDI’s solid-state battery development.

Visitors to Samsung SDI’s ESS Zone will have the opportunity to see the company’s new E5S modules and racks, which are equipped with a direct injection system and water cooling system for optimal safety. The IT Zone and Power Zone will showcase various applications, including smartphones, wearable devices, AI robots, and power tools.

The xEV Zone is set to draw a lot of attention to Samsung SDI’s booth at this year’s event. The zone will showcase displays of the BMW i7 2023 and Volvo FM Electric, which are both expected to be major attractions.

The BMW i7 2023 is BMW’s flagship fully-electric sedan, powered by Samsung SDI’s P5 prismatic batteries. These high-performance batteries use a high-nickel cathode with over 88% nickel and silicon anode to achieve high energy density. Samsung SDI’s batteries are also used to power BMW’s other electric vehicles, such as the iX and i4.

Samsung SDI’s booth will also feature the Volvo FM Electric, which is the first-ever large-sized, electric truck to be showcased in Asia. This fully electric heavy truck model uses approximately 28,000 units of 21700 cylindrical batteries, with a high-nickel cathode of over 91% and high outputs and high-energy density required for heavy-duty commercial trucks. Samsung SDI plans to run various promotional events, including test-driving opportunities for visitors.

Volvo is also participating in the EV Trend Korea exhibition, which is being held alongside InterBattery 2023. The company will showcase its heavy truck range, FH Electric, at the event.
