Hero MotoCorp to launch the first Vida electric scooter on October 7.

Hero MotoCorp has tested 1,006 prototypes of the Vida electric scooter over 2 lakh km on different types of roads and climatic conditions.

The world’s biggest two-wheeler brand Hero MotoCorp is all set to launch its first electric scooter on October 7, 2023, under the sub-brand Vida. The company has posted some teasers of the upcoming electric scooter on Twitter.

Hero MotoCorp claims that they have tested 1,006 prototypes of the Vida electric scooter. The company has also tested the upcoming Vida scooter over 2,00,000 km on different types of roads and climatic conditions.

To showcase all the research and development behind the first e-scooter, Hero has set up a unique, one-of-its-kind installation at Cyber Hub in Gurugram, which shows numerous prototypes of the scooter.

A statement on the installation says - Built to last, 1006 prototypes were tested across 200,000 km and spent 25,000 hours to arrive at the final one.”

After all the tests, Hero is ready to launch its first e-scooter on 7th October. Hero MotoCorp announced the EV brand Vida in March this year. Initially, the scooter was expected to launch in July, but because of the semiconductor shortage, the launch got delayed.

The company has not revealed anything more about the scooter. So far, we know that the scooter will have swappable batteries.

For swappable batteries, Hero has partnered with Taiwan-based and a global technology leader in battery swapping ecosystems, Gogoro. Gogoro offers battery swapping networks in various countries. It has nearly 11,000 battery swapping GoStations at over 2,240 locations across the world. The company hosts more than 340,000 daily battery swaps.

Recently, Hero MotoCorp also partnered with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) to establish a charging infrastructure for EV two-wheelers across India. The two companies will work together to install EV charging stations at existing Hindustan Petroleum petrol pumps.

Currently, it is not clear whether Hero will sell e-scooters from the existing dealerships or establish a new dealership network for EVs. The company can also choose the online way to sell the scooters.

The upcoming Vida electric scooter will compete with Ola Electric, Ather, Hero Electric, Okinawa, and other existing EV two-wheeler companies. Hero’s experience and widespread network across India will help Vida gain market share in a short time.

Please tell us in the comments, what are your thoughts about this upcoming scooter. Do you think other EV companies like Hero Electric, Ampere, Okinawa, and Ola can compete against Hero in the two-wheeler market?
