BYD and NVIDIA Announce Expanded Partnership for Safe and Intelligent Next-Generation Vehicles.

BYD to incorporate the NVIDIA DRIVE Orin compute platform across its Dynasty and Ocean Series of new energy vehicles, offering high-performance computing and programmable cars for future mobility.

EV manufacturer BYD has announced that it will be expanding its partnership with NVIDIA, the technology company that specializes in designing advanced computer graphics and AI solutions. The partnership will focus on BYD’s use of NVIDIA’s DRIVE Orin centralized compute platform, which will be utilized in a broader range of its new energy vehicles (NEVs).

This move comes as part of BYD’s efforts to bring safe and intelligent vehicles to market and to keep up with the rapidly evolving technological landscape of the automotive industry. By incorporating the DRIVE Orin platform, BYD aims to offer programmable cars that can evolve and be updated through the software over the entire lifespan of the vehicle.

The compute horsepower from DRIVE Orin is critical for diverse, redundant sensor processing in real-time. This provides automakers with the necessary computing power to develop and support new software-driven services throughout the entire life of the vehicle, giving users access to the latest software updates as they become available.

The enhanced partnership between BYD and NVIDIA will see the use of the DRIVE Orin platform expand across multiple models in BYD’s next-generation Dynasty and Ocean series of vehicles. With the help of the advanced compute platform, these NEVs will be equipped with high-performance centralized computers that can manage a variety of functions and features, making them safer and more convenient for drivers.

Since its introduction into production last year, DRIVE Orin has quickly become the leading automotive-grade processor in the transportation industry. As a result, it has become the AI engine of choice for the latest generation of new energy vehicles, robotaxis, shuttles, and trucks. With a processing capacity of up to 254 trillion operations per second, the scalable DRIVE Orin platform can perform multiple deep neural networks simultaneously, meeting the strict safety standards set by the industry and ensuring optimal safety and reliability for automated driving functions.

Apart from incorporating NVIDIA DRIVE Orin into its EV fleets, BYD has also announced its collaboration with NVIDIA to enhance the in-vehicle experience by integrating the NVIDIA GeForce NOW™ cloud gaming service into its vehicles. This move further solidifies the partnership between BYD and NVIDIA, highlighting their mutual commitment to innovation and delivering the best possible user experience for their customers.

NVIDIA DRIVE Orin has been enormously successful with global mobility leaders that are building the software-defined future,” said Rishi Dhall, vice president of automotive at NVIDIA. “Our ongoing collaboration with BYD is a testament to the industry’s confidence in DRIVE Orin as the centralized computer for today’s and tomorrow’s intelligent vehicles.”
