The 2023 Volvo C40 and XC40 Recharge models to come with improved range and charging.

Volvo has introduced three new powertrains for the 2023 C40 and XC40 Recharge models, including two rear-wheel-drive options and a revised all-wheel-drive performance model.

Volvo has made upgrades to the 2023 XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge, increasing their range and charging capabilities compared to previous models. Some variants now have a range increase of up to 60 kilometers. Additionally, the company has introduced three new powertrains for these models, including two rear-wheel-drive options and a revised all-wheel-drive performance model.

Volvo has also developed the second-generation permanent magnet electric motor for the rear axles of the fully electric C40 and XC40 models in-house.

The two new rear-wheel drive powertrain options for the 2023 Volvo XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge feature a 175 kW permanent magnet electric motor (e-motor), which offers a 3% increase in power output compared to the previous 170 kW single-motor front-wheel drive variant.

The XC40 Recharge now has a range of up to 460 kilometers (WLTP) thanks to improvements in cooling efficiency, compared to 425 kilometers before. The C40 Recharge has a range of up to 476 kilometers (WLTP). Both models can be charged from 10-80% in approximately 34 minutes using a 130 kW DC public charger.

Additionally, a larger battery option with a 185 kW e-motor is available, boosting the range to 515 kilometers for the XC40 Recharge and 533 kilometers for the C40 Recharge (WLTP). Charging power has also increased, allowing for a top rate of 200 kW DC (previously 150 kW DC) and a 10-80% charge in approximately 28 minutes.

The all-wheel drive versions of the 2023 Volvo XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge have also seen significant range improvements. The previous setup of two 150 kW e-motors on the front and rear axles has been replaced by an in-house developed 183 kW permanent magnet e-motor on the rear axle and a new 117 kW asynchronous electric motor on the front axle.

This new configuration paired with an 82 kWh battery pack and improved battery cooling efficiency allows the XC40 Recharge Twin Motor AWD to drive up to 500 kilometers on a single charge, a 62-kilometer increase compared to the previous model.

The range of the C40 Recharge Twin Motor AWD has also improved to 507 kilometers from 451 kilometers (WLTP). Additionally, exterior updates such as a new aerodynamic 19-inch alloy wheel for both the XC40 and C40 Recharge help to further improve efficiency.
