Musashi Seimitsu Industries announces E-mobility foray in India.

Japan’s Musashi Seimitsu Industries will invest Rs 70 crores to manufacture 2W E-Axle comprising of motor, PCU, and Gear Box, in Bengaluru.

Musashi India, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Musashi Seimitsu Industries, Japan, and a renowned manufacturer of transmission components for two-wheelers and four-wheelers in India, has made a significant announcement today. The company is expanding its operations into the rapidly evolving electric mobility sector in the Indian market.

Leveraging its robust platform of design and engineering capabilities, Musashi India aims to develop and manufacture a new electric vehicle (EV) unit, which will include a motor, power control unit (PCU), and gear box. With a strong focus on producing high-performance and safe automotive components, the company plans to initiate the manufacturing of its E-Axle at its Bengaluru plant, commencing in October 2023.

To facilitate this strategic expansion, Musashi India will invest 70 crore rupees in phase one to establish an assembly line within its existing manufacturing facility in Bengaluru. This step underscores the company’s commitment to embracing the electric revolution and further enhancing its position in the Indian automotive market.

Musashi India has forged a strategic collaboration with Bharat New-Energy Company (BNC) Motors in India, marking a crucial milestone in its journey towards e-mobility. Through this partnership, the company aims to leverage BNC Motors’ expertise and insights in the electric vehicle domain, further bolstering its position in the industry.

Furthermore, Musashi India has already signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with prominent players in the electric mobility space across the globe. The company will supply its Indian-manufactured E-Axle to Strom in Thailand, EV Go in Vietnam, and Arc Ride in Kenya. These strategic alliances demonstrate Musashi’s commitment to expanding its footprint in key international markets and fostering global collaboration.

One of the notable features of Musashi India’s 2-wheel E-Axle is its slim and lightweight design, achieved by integrating the motor and gearbox. Drawing on Musashi’s expertise in gear processing, the company has been able to achieve high transmission efficiency and low noise levels, making their electric powertrain an attractive option for manufacturers and consumers alike.

While Musashi’s home market in Japan, as well as China, North America, and Europe, remain vital territories for the company, it has expressed strong optimism about the Indian market. With the country witnessing a surge in demand for electric vehicles, Musashi India expects to capture a significant market share in the EV business in India.

Commenting on the EV foray, Mr. Toshihisa Otsuka, CEO India & Africa Region said, “We are thrilled to bring Musashi’s expertise and advanced technology to the electric mobility sector in India. Our focus is to provide state-of-the-art components that are essential for the growth and success of electric vehicles. We are confident that our commitment to quality and innovation will contribute significantly to the sustainable development of the Indian automotive industry.”
