Ford to increase production of popular models to meet high customer demand.

Ford is planning to nearly double its hourly production of the Mach-E, bringing its annual manufacturing run rate to a targeted 210,000 units by year's end.

Ford Motor Company is set to increase production at manufacturing plants across North America in response to high customer demand for their vehicles. The company is gearing up to launch all-new versions of four significant vehicles in 2023, including the Super Duty, Ranger, Mustang, and Escape, while also increasing production of existing models such as the Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning, Bronco Sport, and Maverick.

According to the company, the Mustang Mach-E has been a major success story, helping to propel Ford to the number two spot in U.S. electric vehicle sales in 2022. More than two-thirds of Mach-E customers came from other brands, highlighting the vehicle’s appeal to a wide range of customers. The company plans to nearly double its hourly production of the Mach-E, bringing its annual manufacturing run rate to a targeted 210,000 units by year’s end.

In Michigan, the company is ramping up production of the F-150 Lightning, the best-selling electric truck in the U.S. Sales of the F-150 Lightning reached 3,600 in February, in addition to the 15,617 sales recorded in 2022. Production of the vehicle is set to triple this year, with a target annual production run rate of 150,000 by the end of 2023. As part of the production increase, Ford is investing $2 billion across three plants in Michigan and adding 3,200 union jobs.

Ford is also targeting an annual production increase of 38,000 for the Transit and E-Transit vans, America’s best-selling gas and electric vans in 2022. The Kansas City Assembly Plant, which manufactures these models, will add an additional crew in April, with Ford investing $95 million and adding 1,100 union jobs as part of the production increase. Ford has been America’s best-selling commercial van maker for 45 straight years.
