December 2022 Electric two wheeler sales; Ola Electric retains the top position.
TVS registered an increase in its electric two-wheeler monthly sales in December 2022, while the sales of Ampere and Okinawa declined.
Electric two-wheeler sales in 2022 have set new records. Over six lakh two-wheeler EVs were sold in 2022. Electric two wheeler sales exceeded 60,000 in December 2022.
India is seeing an increase in electric two-wheeler sales. The sales in 2022 registered a 305% YoY growth. From 1,51,685 units in 2021, the number grew to 6,20,081 in 2022. The demand for EVs is increasing, and so is competition between companies. Startups are entering the market and competing with leading automobile manufacturers. Ola Electric, which entered the market in 2021, is now leading the electric two-wheeler industry in India.
In December 2022, 64,346 electric two-wheelers were sold in India.
Ola Electric retained the first spot in the sales list. In December 2022, the company delivered 17,279 units of the S1 and S1 Pro electric scooters. The company sold over 16,000 e-scooters for three consecutive months and became the first in the industry to do so. Ola has captured half of the premium scooter market in India and accounts for 17% electric two-wheeler market share. To increase engagement with its customers, Ola Electric is rapidly expanding its offline network in India. The company has opened over 90 experience centres in India and planning to open 200 showrooms in India by March 2023.
TVS registered an increase in its sales in December and ended the year on a high note. The company registered its highest-ever monthly sales figures of 9,317 in December 2022 and is at the second spot in the retail sales list. The new iQube and iQube S are in demand. TVS will also start delivering iQube ST this year. The company is also increasing its retail network and is available in more than 100 cities.
Hero Electric is in the third position with 8,091 deliveries. The company has maintained the top three position throughout the year. Ather Energy is in fourth place on the sales list. The company delivered 7,645 electric scooters in the last month of 2022.
Sales of Okinawa and Ampere declined in December. Okinawa sold 5,279 scooters (almost 3,700 less than in November). Ampere sold 4,408 e-scooters(almost 8,000 less than in November).
Hero MotoCorp also made its entry into the sales list. The company registered 129 VIDA V1 electric scooters. Hero started the deliveries in Bengaluru on 30th December and will start deliveries in Delhi and Jaipur in January.
