Zomato partners with Gogoro and Kotak Mahindra to accelerate EV adoption for last-mile delivery.

Under this partnership, Zomato delivery partners will be offered new and more favourable loan terms by Kotak Mahindra to buy Gogoro smartscooters.

Gogoro Inc., a global technology leader in battery-swapping ecosystems, has announced a groundbreaking partnership with Zomato, one of India’s largest food ordering and delivery platforms, and Kotak Mahindra Prime Limited, a subsidiary of Kotak Mahindra Bank Limited. This partnership is aimed at accelerating the adoption of sustainable electric vehicles by last-mile delivery partners.

Under this partnership, delivery partners on Zomato’s platform will be offered new and more favourable loan terms that are currently unavailable in India. The three-way partnership aligns with the Indian government’s focus on providing affordable access to sustainable transportation.

Gogoro’s battery-swapping services and Smartscooters are designed to provide safe, reliable, and always available energy for last-mile delivery partners. In contrast, tethered electric charging requires dedicated parking and charge time, which reduces delivery partner availability and income.

Zomato, a leading food ordering, delivery, and dining-out platform headquartered in India, has over 300,000 delivery partners. It is the only food ordering and delivery platform committed to The Climate Group’s EV100 initiative, aiming to transition to 100% EV-based deliveries by 2030. In line with its commitment to sustainable growth, Zomato is taking a leadership role by providing its delivery partners with access to advanced electric solutions such as the Gogoro Smartscooter and Gogoro’s Swap & Go battery swapping network.

Kotak Mahindra Prime Limited, the vehicle leasing division of India’s fourth-largest bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, is committed to providing more accessible loan terms for sustainable transportation. They will be leveraging the unique security features of Gogoro’s Smartscooter, including 100% user authentication that makes it challenging to steal. Furthermore, payment delinquency will be low because access to battery swapping can be paused. This partnership with Gogoro and Kotak Mahindra Prime Limited will help Zomato achieve its goal of transitioning to a 100% EV-based delivery fleet by 2030, significantly reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable transportation in India.

The partnership is the first of its kind in India and underscores the growing importance of sustainable transportation solutions in the country. The companies involved in the partnership are committed to promoting the use of electric vehicles for last-mile delivery, which can significantly reduce carbon emissions and improve air quality in cities.

Electric two-wheelers powered by affordable, reliable, and accessible battery swapping solutions can positively impact delivery partner pay-outs, apart from reducing air pollution. That’s why we’re excited to partner with Gogoro and Kotak on this endeavour,” said Mohit Sardana, COO, Food Delivery at Zomato.

The urban transformation to electric transportation in India’s cities has begun and it is essential that we provide delivery partners with an accessible path to own and leverage the benefits that smart electric two-wheel vehicles and battery swapping offer. Gogoro, Zomato, and Kotak are partnering to make this a reality,” said Horace Luke, founder, and CEO of Gogoro. “Gogoro Network battery swapping and vehicles provide a proven track record of safety and security that Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs) like Kotak Prime can embrace and support. This partnership will provide a powerful opportunity for delivery partners to lead India’s transition to smart and safe electric transportation.”
