Zeelo Launches Electric Bus Program in the UK.

Under the program, Zeelo is offering a free one-month trial of emissions-free staff transport to its clients in the UK.

In a move to promote carbon neutrality in the transportation sector, Zeelo, the global independent provider of smart bus transport, has launched an electric bus program in the UK. The initiative, launched in partnership with six local bus operators and six clients, aims to test the feasibility of delivering emissions-free staff transport.

The taster scheme, which will run for six months, offers clients the opportunity to switch their existing Zeelo commuter service to electric bus routes free of charge for a period of one month each. The move is expected to encourage more businesses to adopt sustainable transportation solutions as part of their corporate social responsibility commitments.

One of the early adopters of the program is Jaguar Land Rover, a long-standing client partner of Zeelo. The automaker has completed its one-month trial of an electric bus powered by Zeelo on its Gaydon site employee commuter service. The 40km round-trip service, which amounts to 1,586 km each month, was completed using the electric bus.

Jaguar Land Rover has been a client of Zeelo’s smart bus services for over five years, providing over 113,000 bus rides per year for its office workers and frontline staff from nearby towns. By switching to an emissions-free employee commuter service on all existing routes, the automaker can significantly reduce its own CO2 emissions by 2,500 cubic tonnes annually, contributing to its commitment to become carbon net-zero by 2039.

As one of Zeelo’s early backers through its corporate venture capital arm, InMotion Ventures, Jaguar Land Rover is also supporting the net-zero scheme. The automaker’s participation in the initiative is a positive step towards promoting sustainable transportation solutions in the UK and beyond, as it sets an example for other businesses to follow.

Zeelo’s nationwide roadshow this month aims to demonstrate to its network of over 200 bus operator partners the simplicity of integrating electric vehicles into mass transit and to overcome barriers such as high costs and concerns around the distance achievable on electric buses.

The initiative offers bus operators the opportunity to trial a Yutong TCe12, enabling them to evaluate the capabilities of electric vehicles in action before committing to investing in a completely electric fleet. Clients have shown a keen interest in the service, but scaling the availability of electric buses is dependent on investment from bus operators.

To facilitate the switch to electric transport, Zeelo has implemented a financing scheme. Under this scheme, partial costs will be covered through an upgraded client contract, while also providing a preferential financing scheme for electric fleets and portable charging infrastructure, courtesy of Zeelo’s partner Zenobe.

By providing bus operators with access to the Yutong TCe12 and financing incentives, Zeelo hopes to encourage the adoption of sustainable transportation solutions, contributing to efforts to reduce carbon emissions from the transportation sector. The success of the initiative is expected to pave the way for more bus operators to invest in electric fleets, ultimately leading to a greener and cleaner future.
