Volkswagen unveils the Mobile Charging Robot for EVs.

Volkswagen unveils the Mobile Charging Robot, which charges the EV without any Human involvement.

Volkswagen Group took the EV charging technology one step further by introducing the mobile charging robot. The company gave the first glance of the prototype of this charging robot.
It is a creative concept of charging an EV. It automatically recharges the vehicle in parking areas.
Thomas Schmall, CEO of Volkswagen Group Components, says, “A ubiquitous charging infrastructure is, and remains, a key factor in the success of electric mobility. Our charging robot is just one of several approaches, but is undoubtedly one of the most visionary”.
The charging robot operates automatically. It goes to the vehicle and communicates with it to open the charging socket flap, connect the charger, and decouple it. All this process takes place without any human involvement.
The robot moves an energy storage unit to the vehicle, connects it, and then charges the EV. After fully charging the EV, the robot collects the energy unit and takes it back to the central charging station.

“Setting up an efficient charging infrastructure for the future is a central task that challenges the entire sector,” says Schmall. “We are developing solutions to help avoid costly stand-alone measures. The mobile charging robot and our flexible quick-charging station are just two of these solutions.
Our developments do not just focus on customers’ needs and the technical prerequisites of electric vehicles. They also consider the economic possibilities they offer potential partners.” They enable the operators of parking structures to quickly and “electrify” every parking space by utilizing the mobile charging robot. It reduces any construction work needed, at the same time reducing the potential cost.”
