This iconic VW bus will make its world premiere on June 2nd at the vibrant surfer hotspot of Huntington Beach, situated along the picturesque Pacific Coast Highway near Los Angeles.

The unveiling of the ID. Buzz long wheelbase edition comes as part of the largest VW Bus festival in the United States, paying homage to the dedicated fans and the country that has embraced this cultural icon throughout the decades. In a gesture of appreciation, Volkswagen is even declaring June 2nd as “Volkswagen Bus Day,” a holiday that will be celebrated from New York to San Francisco, marking the beginning of a new era for this beloved vehicle.

Following the festivities in North America, the ID. Buzz will embark on a bus tour across Germany, culminating in the European debut of the long version of the vehicle at the international VW Bus Festival in Hanover from June 23rd to 25th. This event promises to be a significant gathering for Volkswagen enthusiasts, as it is recognized as Europe’s largest VW Bus meetup.

The long-wheelbase ID. Buzz, measuring at 4,962 mm and offering seating for up to seven passengers, is perfectly suited for its North American launch. However, this expanded version also brings new opportunities for customers in Europe. With an extended wheelbase of 250 mm, the vehicle now features a third row of seats, creating a capacious interior and providing an impressive 2,469 liters of storage space. The inclusion of a larger 85 kWh battery (net capacity) further enhances the range of the ID. Buzz, while an innovative heat pump increases overall efficiency during colder months.

Underneath its sleek exterior, the large ID. Buzz boasts a powerful new 210 kW (286 hp) electric drive motor. With this upgraded motor, the vehicle can achieve a maximum speed of 160 km/h (100 mph), ensuring an exhilarating driving experience. Acceleration is also impressive, with the ability to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 7.9 seconds.

Looking ahead, Volkswagen has announced plans for an all-wheel drive version of the ID. Buzz (GTX) with an output of 250 kW (339 hp) set to be released in 2024. This high-performance variant, geared towards the thrill-seeking driver, will accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in an impressive 6.4 seconds, making it an ideal choice for merging seamlessly with highway traffic.

Other new features of the large electric VW Bus include a head-up display, an upgraded next-generation infotainment system, and remote parking via smartphone. Meanwhile, a newly designed high-tech panoramic sunroof with smart glass brings back memories of the legendary Samba Bus of the 50s.At 1.5 square meters, it is the largest glass roof ever built by Volkswagen. The smart glass can be changed from transparent to opaque and vice versa using the touch slider or voice assistant. The North American versions will also feature air-conditioned seats and an illuminated Volkswagen logo on the front.

In 2024, the eagerly awaited ID. Buzz vehicles will make their way to American shores as Volkswagen gears up for their delivery. Simultaneously, the long-wheelbase version of the ID. Buzz will also become available in Europe, joining the esteemed ranks of the Multivan and the Bulli T6.1. These iconic vehicles will be manufactured at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ primary facility in Hanover, which stands as one of the most advanced automotive plants globally and proudly serves as the birthplace of the esteemed VW Bus family.
