Volkswagen Group increases electric vehicle sales by 42 percent in Q1 2023.

By the end of March, Volkswagen Group delivered 141,000 all-electric vehicles (BEVs) to customers, up from 99,200 in the prior-year period.

The Volkswagen Group has announced a significant increase in electric vehicle sales in the first quarter of 2023, according to its latest quarterly report. The group delivered 141,000 all-electric vehicles (BEVs) to customers by the end of March, a 42 percent increase from the previous year.

Europe was the biggest growth driver for the Volkswagen Group, with a 68 percent increase in BEV sales to 98,300 vehicles. The group also reported a high BEV order backlog in Western Europe, with over 260,000 vehicles yet to be delivered. About 70 percent of the group’s BEV deliveries went to Europe, while China and the United States were the second and third-largest markets, respectively.

In China, the group delivered 21,500 BEVs, representing a global share of 15 percent. Meanwhile, the United States saw 15,700 BEV deliveries, accounting for 11 percent of the group’s global share.

Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand was the leading contributor to the group’s BEV sales, with 70,000 deliveries, followed by Audi with 34,600 vehicles, and ŠKODA with 12,400 vehicles. SEAT/CUPRA, Porsche, and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles also contributed significantly to the group’s BEV sales.

  • Audi Q4 e-tron (incl. Sportback) - 21,300
  • ŠKODA Enyaq iV (incl. Coupé) - 12,400
  • Audi e-tron/Q8 e-tron (incl. Sportback) - 9,700
