Volkswagen delivered over 500k EVs in 2022, a 26 percent YoY increase.

Volkswagen Group remained the BEV market leader in Europe, with 352,000 deliveries in 2022. EV deliveries in China increased by 68% and reached 155,700 units.

In 2022, the Volkswagen Group delivered 572,100 electric vehicles worldwide, a significant increase of 26% compared to the previous year. The proportion of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in total deliveries reached 6.9%, up from 5.1% in 2021. The company continues to lead the BEV market in Europe and has reached 4th place in the United States. The strongest growth was in China, where BEV deliveries rose by 68% year-over-year.

In 2022, Volkswagen began producing electric vehicles at its facilities in Emden, Hanover, and Chattanooga, with production starting at the Group headquarters in Wolfsburg this year. The company aims to increase the proportion of battery electric vehicles in its total deliveries to around 11% in 2023, as a stepping stone towards its goal of 20% by 2025. The company plans for every second vehicle delivered globally by 2030 to be fully electric.

In Europe, BEV deliveries increased by 13.4% to 352,000 units. Western Europe saw high demand for BEVs, with a 12.6% share of total deliveries (compared to 10.5% in 2021), allowing the Volkswagen Group to maintain its leadership in this market segment. The company has 310,000 BEV orders in Western Europe. In Germany, the proportion of BEVs in total deliveries reached 11.6% (compared to 11.4% in 2021).

In North America, deliveries of battery electric vehicles rose by 18.8% to 44,200 units, resulting in a rank of 4th place in the all-electric market segment. Production of BEVs in Chattanooga, which began in 2022, will provide additional capacity to meet growing customer demand for electric mobility in the region.

BEV deliveries in China increased by 68% and reached 155,700 units.
