Q1 2023 Electric two wheeler sales in India; Ola Electric crosses the 50,000 mark in just 3 months.

Electric two wheeler sales in Q1 2023 crossed the 2 lakh mark. The Q1 2023 sales alone have surpassed the sales for the whole of 2021.

As the world shifts its focus towards cleaner and more sustainable modes of transportation, India is no exception. In the Q1 of 2023, electric two wheeler sales in the country reached a new high, with over 2,15,509 units sold. This number represents a massive surge in demand, with a third of last year’s total sales achieved in just three months.

The data indicates that the adoption of electric two-wheelers is gaining significant momentum in India. The Q1 2023 sales alone have surpassed the sales for the whole of 2021, which is a clear sign that the Indian consumer is embracing the benefits of electric mobility. With this rate, electric two-wheeler sales will cross the 10 lakh mark this year, which would represent a significant milestone in the country’s transition towards sustainable transportation.

The surge in electric two-wheeler sales is attributed to a variety of factors, including increasing awareness about the benefits of electric mobility, government subsidies, and the introduction of new and improved electric two-wheelers in the market.

India is home to some of the world’s most polluted cities, and the government has been actively promoting sustainable transportation to combat the issue. The rapid growth of electric two-wheeler sales is a positive sign that the message is being heard loud and clear. The government’s efforts to promote electric mobility through various initiatives and incentives have also played a critical role in driving demand.

While the growth in electric two-wheeler sales is undoubtedly a positive trend, there are still significant challenges that need to be addressed. The lack of proper infrastructure, such as charging stations, remains a significant barrier to widespread adoption. Additionally, the affordability of electric two-wheelers is still an issue for many consumers.

Ola Electric has emerged as the best-selling e-two wheeler brand in India, with an impressive 57,048 units sold in Q1 2023 alone. The company is the only one to cross the 50,000 mark and has captured a significant one-fourth share of the total sales.

TVS, another well-established player in the Indian two-wheeler market, is at the second position with 39,677 e-two-wheelers sold in Q1 2023. Ather Energy closely follows TVS with 31,136 units sold.

While the overall e-two wheeler market in India has seen impressive growth in Q1 2023, some manufacturers have experienced significant declines in sales. Okinawa and Hero Electric, two well-established players in the industry, have seen their sales drop drastically this year.

Last year, these two companies held second and third positions in the market. However, in Q1 2023, Hero Electric has slipped to the fifth position with only 18,899 e-two wheelers sold. Okinawa, on the other hand, has fallen to the sixth position with just 12,749 units sold.

There could be several reasons for the decline in sales for these two companies. One possible factor is the increasing competition in the market, with new players like Ola Electric entering the scene and capturing a significant market share. Another reason could be the lack of innovation and new product launches from Okinawa and Hero Electric, which could have led to a drop in consumer interest.
