Polestar Cars reports a 125% sales increase in the first half of 2022.

Polestar delivered approx 21,200 cars in the first six months of 2022, more than doubling deliveries from 9,510 cars in the same period in 2021 – an increase of almost 125%.

The Swedish electric car company Polestar announced its sales in the first half of 2022. From January to June 2022, Polestar delivered approximately 21,200 electric cars. The sales increased by 125% YoY. In the first half of 2021, the number was just 9,510.

Polestar expanded its presence from 19 to 25 markets in the first half of 2022. Currently, Polestar has 125 retail locations across Europe, North America, China, and the Asia Pacific. The company plans to add 30 more dealerships by the end of 2022.

Polestar is targeting to deliver 50,000 cars this year. Increasing the retail presence will help them achieve the target.

The company also announced that COVID-19 lockdowns in China affected production and supply. Polestar has now introduced a second shift in its factory to recover the production lost earlier this year.

Polestar will enter the electric SUV segment in October this year with the launch of Polestar 3. The company believes that the upcoming SUV will boost its growth trajectory and take the company one step closer to its goal of selling 290,000 cars in 2025.

At the moment, Polestar has two electric cars in its portfolio. The Polestar 1 is a low-volume electric performance hybrid GT with a carbon fibre body, 609 hp, 1,000 Nm, and an electric-only range of 124 km (WLTP).

The other car, Polestar 2, is the company’s first fully electric, high-volume car. The Polestar 2 model range includes three variants with a combination of long- and standard-range batteries as large as 78 kWh and dual- and single-motor powertrains with as much as 300 kW / 408 hp and 660 Nm.

Commenting on the company’s half-yearly performance, Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath said: It is great to see that the number of enthusiastic Polestar 2 customers is growing so quickly. I am very confident that the strong momentum we have seen this year in brand awareness and sales figures will accelerate powerfully in the coming years as more ground-breaking cars are revealed.
