2022 will be a record-breaking year for New Delhi in terms of EV sales. Delhites are showing more interest in EVs than people of any other city. The number of EVs sold in New Delhi in the first six months of 2022 has surpassed the total number of sales in 2021.

25,890 EVs have been sold in Delhi in the first half of 2022. The sales number is higher than the total EVs sold in any year since 2018. In 2021, 25,814 EVs were registered in Delhi.

On average, 143 EVs are registered in Delhi every day. In 2021 the number was just 71.

New Delhi’s EV policy is a significant factor in boosting EV sales. On August 7, 2020, the Delhi government launched the EV policy. To boost EV adoption, the government is giving incentives to all new EV buyers. For two-wheelers, the maximum incentive is ₹ 30,000, and for four-wheelers, the maximum subsidy is ₹ 1,50,000.

There is also no road tax and registration fees for an electric vehicle.

Apart from this, the government is also working to develop EV charging infrastructure across Delhi. The aim is to have public charging facilities within 3 km of travel from anywhere in Delhi.

All these initiatives are helping the government to achieve its aim of having a 25% EV share in all new vehicle registration by 2024.
