Ola Electric Begins Construction of India's Biggest Gigafactory, Spearheading the EV Revolution.

Spread across 115 acres, the Ola Gigafactory will begin operations by early next year with an initial capacity of 5 GWh which will be further expanded in phases to 100 GWh at full capacity.

Ola Electric, India’s leading electric vehicle company, made a groundbreaking announcement today, marking a significant milestone in the country’s pursuit of a greener transportation future. The company has commenced the construction of what will be India’s largest Gigafactory, solidifying its position as a frontrunner in the EV industry.

Situated in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu, the Ola Gigafactory has already laid down its first pillar, representing a symbol of progress and innovation. With an impressive expanse spanning 115 acres, this state-of-the-art facility is set to revolutionize the manufacturing landscape and elevate India’s EV capabilities to a global scale.

At its inception, the Ola Gigafactory will boast a capacity of 5 GWh (gigawatt-hours). However, this is just the beginning, as the company plans to gradually expand the facility in phases, ultimately reaching a staggering 100 GWh at full capacity. Such immense production potential will not only make it India’s largest cell factory but also position it as one of the world’s largest cell manufacturing facilities.

Ola Electric’s ambitious vision extends beyond corporate success. By localizing critical components of the EV value chain, the company aims to empower the nation, fostering self-reliance, and catalyzing the growth of electric vehicles across the country. The establishment of the Ola Gigafactory represents a pivotal step in realizing India’s potential as a global EV hub, affirming the nation’s commitment to a sustainable and eco-friendly future.

In addition to the Gigafactory, Ola Electric has made substantial investments in cell and battery research and development. Located in Bangalore, the company’s Battery Innovation Center stands as one of the largest and most advanced facilities for core cell tech development and battery innovation worldwide. Equipped with cutting-edge technology, this center is a testament to Ola’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of EV technology.

The announcement of the Gigafactory comes hand-in-hand with Ola Electric’s recent memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with the Government of Tamil Nadu. Under the agreement, Ola plans to expand its manufacturing capabilities in both two-wheelers and four-wheelers, positioning the state as a thriving hub for advanced cell and electric vehicle production. This strategic move will foster the growth of vendor and supplier parks, nurturing a comprehensive ancillary ecosystem for EVs at a single location—an EV Hub.

As the Ola Gigafactory continues to take shape, with operations set to commence by early next year, the eyes of the world will be on India’s burgeoning EV sector. Ola Electric’s dedication, ambition, and technological prowess have positioned the company as a trailblazer, driving the EV revolution not just within India’s borders but across the globe.

Bhavish Aggarwal, Founder and CEO, Ola said that “This is a proud moment for us as we installed the first pillar of our Gigafactory today. Our Gigafactory will be a major milestone in India’s electrification journey, bringing us closer to making India a global EV hub. With our focus on innovation, technology, and manufacturing at scale, we are committed to driving the future of electric and #EndICEAge.”
