NIO Launches ET5 Touring: A Smart Electric Tourer Combining Versatility and Style.

In China, the NIO ET5 Touring is priced, starting from RMB 298,000 ($42,000) for the 75 kWh battery variant and RMB 356,000($50,000) for the 100 kWh battery variant.

NIO has officially unveiled its latest addition to the lineup, the ET5 Touring. Aimed at families seeking a combination of practicality and sporty design, the ET5 Touring offers a spacious interior while retaining the signature characteristics of its sedan variant.

Drawing inspiration from NIO’s second-generation design language, the ET5 Touring boasts a sleek and sensuous hatchback profile that accentuates its dynamic and elegant body contour. The front Watchtower sensor layout seamlessly integrates various sensing units, including LiDAR and cameras, into the tourer’s roofline. These sensors enhance the vehicle’s safety features and enable advanced driver-assistance systems.

With dimensions measuring 4,790 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width, and 1,499 mm in height, the ET5 Touring provides ample space for passengers and cargo. The extended rear design, coupled with the naturally flowing rooflines connecting to the rear spoiler, creates a balanced and aesthetically pleasing appearance. The rear spoiler, along with the distinctive illumiBlade taillight, reinforces the vehicle’s unmistakable NIO identity.

Thanks to its tourer styling, the ET5 Touring offers a spacious interior within its class. The front and rear seats provide a generous longitudinal space of 1,857 mm, ensuring comfortable journeys for occupants. The rear row, in particular, benefits from increased headroom, while the 40:20:40 independent folding rear seats add to the vehicle’s versatility and functionality.

Encompassing NIO’s high-performance DNA, the ET5 Touring is equipped with the brand’s proven and powerful dual-motor all-wheel drive system, ensuring exceptional performance on the road. Its progressive aerodynamics, boasting a low drag coefficient of 0.25 (Cd0.25), further enhance efficiency and handling.

The ET5 Touring showcases its sporty prowess by accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 4.0 seconds, exemplifying NIO’s commitment to delivering exhilarating electric driving experiences. With a perfect 50:50 weight distribution and a low center of gravity measuring just 499mm, the vehicle offers remarkable stability and balanced handling.

To ensure superior control across various surfaces, the ET5 Touring features an advanced front and rear five-link suspension system. NIO has fine-tuned the suspension setup to deliver supreme handling and comfort, allowing for a smooth and enjoyable ride. Additionally, both the front and rear axles come equipped with the Hydraulic Rebound Stop (HRS) system as standard. This system effectively dampens impacts from the road, reduces the working noise of the suspension, and enhances the overall NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) quality, striking a balance between handling and comfort.

Braking performance is another area where the ET5 Touring shines. NIO’s proprietary high-performance four-piston fixed calipers, made from aluminum alloy, are paired with high-performance NAO pads, resulting in impressive braking capabilities. The vehicle achieves a braking distance of 33.9 meters from 100 km/h to a full stop, while effectively minimizing low-frequency noise.

The ET5 Touring offers a delightful driving experience with its nine driving modes, making it easy to adapt to various road conditions and driver preferences. In addition to the standard Eco, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, and Custom modes, the ET5 Touring introduces four scenario modes specifically designed for Snow, Sand, Wet, and Trailer scenarios. These comprehensive driving modes cater to the needs of users in diverse driving situations.

NIO AQUILA Super Sensing takes assisted and intelligent driving to the next level in the ET5 Touring. Featuring an array of 33 high-performance sensors, including a cutting-edge ultralong range and high-resolution LiDAR camera, the vehicle provides a superior sense of the road and its surroundings. This advanced sensing system enhances safety and situational awareness, enabling a more confident and secure driving experience.

The heart of the ET5 Touring lies in its NIO ADAM Super Computing system, powered by four NVIDIA DRIVE Orin X chips and boasting a remarkable 1,016 TOPS (Trillions of Operations Per Second) of computing power. This exceptional computing capability enables the vehicle to offer 23 standard safety and driver assistance features, with additional functionalities regularly added through over-the-air (OTA) software (SOTA) and firmware (FOTA) updates. NIO’s commitment to continuous improvement ensures that drivers can enjoy the latest advancements in safety and convenience.

The Banyan 2.0 system serves as the intelligent connectivity hub for NIO’s products, services, and communities, creating a unique and integrated intelligent driving experience. This comprehensive ecosystem seamlessly connects various aspects of the NIO ownership experience, enhancing convenience, efficiency, and enjoyment for users.

The ET5 Touring places paramount importance on safety. Designed in compliance with stringent five-star safety standards in China and Europe, the vehicle incorporates a high-strength steel and aluminum hybrid body, along with advanced manufacturing processes. Features such as an integrated die-cast aluminum rear floor, integrated hollow cast aluminum subframe, and aluminum extrusion sills ensure a balance of strength, safety, and weight reduction. With a remarkable torsional stiffness of 32,000 N·m/degree, the ET5 Touring surpasses its peers in terms of structural rigidity.

Occupant safety is further enhanced with the inclusion of seven airbags, including a central airbag, providing maximum protection in the event of a collision or impact.

The ET5 Touring offers a range of customization options to suit individual preferences. It is available in ten exterior colors, including the vibrant NIO Color 2023 Sunlight Gold, and offers six interior themes, allowing users to personalize their driving environment.

In China, the ET5 Touring is competitively priced, starting from RMB 298,000 for the 75 kWh battery variant, RMB 356,000 for the 100 kWh battery variant, and RMB 228,000 with the Battery as a Service (BaaS) option. The model is currently available for test drives and orders in China, with the expected delivery time commencing from June 16, 2023. NIO has also disclosed the prices of the ET5 Touring in European markets and announced that deliveries will commence in the fourth quarter of 2023.
