New Electric Vehicle Policy of Assam 2021.

The government is exempting the registration charges and road tax on Electric Vehicles for the next five years.

To accelerate the pace of adoption of EVs, the government of Assam has passed the Electric Vehicle policy. The policy will remain in force for the next five years till 2026.

The main aim of the policy is to promote clean transportation to assure environmental sustainability. The government is also aiming to create an ecosystem for manufacturing EV components in Assam.

The government of Assam is aspiring to have at least 25% EVs of all the new vehicle registrations by 2026.

Incentives for EVs in Assam.

The incentives for all types of electric vehicles will be based on the battery capacity of the EV.

2-wheelers incentives.

Electric two-wheelers with a battery capacity of or more than 2kWh are applicable for the subsidy. A subsidy of ₹ 10,000/kWh will be given to 2-wheelers.

A maximum amount of ₹ 20,000 will be offered, and to get the incentive, the vehicle should have a price less than ₹ 1.50lakhs.

Only the first 1 lakh electric two-wheelers will get the incentive.

3-wheelers incentives.

The minimum battery capacity to avail of the benefit for 3-wheelers is 5kWh. The subsidy amount is ₹10,000/kWh, and the maximum subsidy is ₹ 50,000. To get the incentive, the vehicle should have a price less than ₹ 5lakhs.

Only the first 75,000 electric three-wheelers will get the incentive.

4-wheelers incentives.

Electric 4-wheelers with a minimum battery capacity of 15kWh will get the allowance. The subsidy amount is ₹10,000/kWh, and the maximum subsidy is ₹ 1,50,000. To get the allowance, the vehicle should have a price less than ₹ 15lakhs.

Only the first 25,000 electric four-wheelers will get the incentive.

Additional benefits for EVs in Assam.

The government of Assam is exempting the registration charges and road tax on 2, 3 & 4 Wheeler Electric Vehicles for the next five years. The government is also offering a 100% Waiver on parking charges for Electric Vehicles for 5 years.

Incentives for charging infrastructure.

  • The commercial public EV charging stations for 2-wheelers, 3-wheelers, and 4-wheelers will be eligible for a 25 % capital subsidy on equipment/machinery subject to a maximum limit of ₹10 lakhs per station. This incentive will be provided to the first 500 commercial public EV charging stations.
  • Petrol Pumps will be allowed to set up charging stations subject to qualifying fire & safety standard norms issued by the competent authorities.
  • The State Government will exempt 100% electricity duty of EV charging stations during the period of this policy.
