Mercedes partners with Google to create next-gen Navigation technology for its vehicles.

Under the partnership, Mercedes will be the first automaker to build its own branded navigation experience using the latest in-car data and navigation capabilities from the Google Maps Platform.

Mercedes Benz and Google have announced a strategic partnership aimed at revolutionizing the way we interact with cars. The companies plan to work together to create a next-generation digital luxury car experience that builds on Google’s expertise in data and navigation, and Mercedes-Benz’s reputation for engineering excellence.

Under the partnership, Mercedes-Benz will be the first automaker to build its own branded navigation experience using the latest in-car data and navigation capabilities from the Google Maps Platform. This will allow Mercedes-Benz to create a more personalized and intuitive navigation system that’s tailored to the needs of its customers.

After this partnership, Mercedes will get access to Google’s leading geospatial offering, including detailed information about places, real-time and predictive traffic information, automatic rerouting, and more. By embedding these features into the upcoming Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS), customers will be able to enjoy a superior navigation experience.

Mercedes will also use Google Maps data to enable assisted driving features such as automatic speed adjustments before intersections, roundabouts, or curves. Additionally, the MB.OS will come with the YouTube app into the Mercedes-Benz infotainment system.

As a first step, Mercedes-Benz will give customers access to Place Details provided by Google, helping them find detailed information about more than 200 million businesses and places around the world, including business hours, photos, ratings, and reviews. Place Details will be available starting today in all vehicles with the latest generation of MBUX in applicable markets.

The companies agreed to explore further collaboration using Google Cloud’s leading artificial intelligence (AI), data, and open infrastructure solutions. For example:

  • AI: Leveraging Google Cloud’s AI and machine learning capabilities, Mercedes-Benz aims to rapidly create, train, and deploy new models that enhance the customer experience.
  • Data: Mercedes-Benz plans to utilize Google Cloud’s highly efficient data processing platform to analyze and glean insights from fleet data.
  • Open Infrastructure: By utilizing Google’s open infrastructure, Mercedes-Benz aims to securely innovate and scale its technology landscape, from on-premises to edge to cloud.

Sundar Pichai, Chief Executive Officer, Google and Alphabet, said: “Our partnership with Mercedes-Benz brings advanced technologies from Google Maps Platform, Cloud, and YouTube to help create new experiences for drivers. In addition to enabling Mercedes-Benz to design a customized navigation interface, we’ll provide our AI and data capabilities to accelerate their sustainability efforts, advance autonomous driving, and create an enhanced customer experience.”
