IIT KGP's homegrown BLDC motor technology ready for commercial production.

Brushless Motor India Pvt Ltd gets the technology from IIT KGP for the commercial production of BLDC motors and smart controllers.

More than 90% of EV components and technology like motors, controllers, converters, Battery Management systems, and chargers are imported into our country. Most of which come from China. These components are not suitable for Indian roads and traffic conditions.

By keeping this massive problem in mind, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has initiated a programme for Indigenous Development of Electric Vehicle Sub-systems.

MeitY aims to manufacture these components locally. It has taken up steps for the technology development of 2/3-wheeler EVs, as it contributes to more than 80% of the electric vehicles on our roads.

Under the same program, IIT Kharagpur has developed an Indigenous, Efficient, Affordable, and Certified BLDC motor and smart controller for e-Rickshaws.

Yesterday MeitY transferred this homegrown technology to a Pune-based company Brushless Motor India Pvt Ltd, for commercial production.

This technology transfer has happened as part of Digital India Week, which Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated on 4th July 2022 at Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

The government is focusing more on the indigenously developed EV components. Recently a Hyderabad-based company GODI became the first Indian company to get BIS certification to manufacture and sell Li-ion cells in India.
