Battista by Automobili Pininfarina breaks speed records at India's Natrax test facility.

Battista secured its position as the world's fastest-accelerating production car by completing the ¼ mile and ½ mile sprints in record-breaking times of 8.55s and 13.38s, respectively.

In a stunning achievement, the Battista by Automobili Pininfarina has broken multiple speed records at India’s Natrax test facility. The pure-electric car has secured its position as the world’s fastest-accelerating production car by completing the ¼ mile and ½ mile sprints in record-breaking times. It achieved ¼ mile in 8.55 seconds and ½ mile in 13.38 seconds.

The Battista’s record-breaking runs have not only secured its position as the fastest accelerating production car in the world, but they have also made it the fastest road-legal car ever on Indian soil.

Autocar India’s Hormazd Sorabjee and Renuka Kirpalani, alongside Development Driver Stefano Costa, joined the Performance, Test, and Validation Team of the Italian brand at the event. The goal was to demonstrate the remarkable performance that Battista owners and drivers can experience.

In this test, Hormazd Sorabjee effortlessly reached a top speed of 358.03km/h on the track, surpassing the previous top speed record in India of 332km/h, which was also held by Autocar India. Renuka Kirpalani followed closely with a speed of 357.10km/h, establishing herself as the fastest Indian female driver in the world. Both of these top speed records were verified by the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI), the Indian sporting body affiliated with the FIA.

The Battista produces over 1,900hp and 2,340 Nm torque, with power distributed across all four wheels via four motors and through a unique, sophisticated torque vectoring system tuned by Automobili Pininfarina’s engineers.

The car can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 1.86 seconds. It is also the fastest-braking EV in the world. The official performance figures of the Battista hyper GT are:

  • 0-60mph in 1.79s
  • 0-100km/h in 1.86s
  • 0-120mph in 4.49s
  • 0-200km/h in 4.75s
  • 100-0km/h (braking) in 31 metres

Paolo Dellachà, Automobili Pininfarina CEO, said: “We were very proud to bring Battista to India for the first time. Collaborative events there with our shareholder Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd were delivered at a significant time for Automobili Pininfarina. In 2022 we began production of Battista at our new Atelier facility in Italy, with deliveries to customers worldwide starting soon after.”
