Audi Unveils the Activesphere Concept: A versatile Crossover Coupé that can transform into a pickup truck.

The fourth model in the EV concept series, the activesphere concept offers a sustainable and dynamic electric vehicle experience with long-distance capability, utilizing the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) for series production and 800-volt charging technology for fast charging times.

Audi has revealed the fourth model in its EV concept series, the activesphere concept. It is a four-door crossover coupé, which can turn into an open cargo bed (active back) at the touch of a button. The car is 4.98 meters long, has large 22-inch wheels, and has impressive ground clearance, making it perfect for off-roading.

Audi activesphere concept has a drive system and suspension suitable for both on and off-road driving, and the steering wheel and pedals offer both active and autonomous control options. It has a sleek and dynamic coupé design but can quickly transform into a pickup truck for transporting sports gear, including space for two e-bikes in the cargo bed.

The Audi activesphere, part of the sphere family of concept vehicles, is equipped with an electric drive and quick-charging technology from Audi’s PPE modular system. With no emissions, a range of over 600 km, and fast charging times thanks to 800-volt technology, it offers a sustainable and dynamic electric vehicle experience with long-distance capability.

The Audi activesphere concept, similar to the Audi grandsphere and Audi urbansphere, utilizes the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) for series production. Developed under Audi’s leadership in collaboration with Porsche AG, the first production vehicles based on PPE will be unveiled consecutively before the end of 2023.

The PPE fleet’s key component is a battery module located between the axles, which in the Audi activesphere concept holds around 100 kWh of energy. Utilizing the entire car width between the axles allows for a flat battery layout. The all-wheel drive concept car is powered by electric motors on both the front and rear axles, delivering a total output of 325 kW and a system torque of 720 Newton meters.

The front and rear wheels are connected through a five-link axle, and it features Audi adaptive air suspension with adaptive dampers. PPE technology is equipped with 800-volt charging technology, which allows for fast charging of the battery with up to 270 kW at fast-charging stations, similar to the Audi e-tron GT quattro1. This technology will be introduced in the high-volume mid-range and luxury segments for the first time. PPE technology enables charging times close to a conventional refueling stop for a combustion engine car, taking only 10 minutes to charge enough energy for over 300 kilometers, and less than 25 minutes to charge from 5 to 80 percent. The Audi activesphere, with its range of well over 600 kilometers, is suitable for long-distance travel.
